TIME TO SAY GOOD-BYE AND AFRICAN VILLAGE SONG

You need to start every day with a song and end the day with a song.

It Is Time to Say Good-Bye (Tune: "She'll Be Coming Round the Mountain")
(Clap your hands and stomp your feet to the beat.)
It is time to say good-bye to all my friends.
It is time to say good-bye to all my friends.
It is time to say good-bye,
Give a smile and wink your eye. (Smile and then wink.)
It is time to say good-bye to all my friends. (Wave good-bye.)
Yeehaw!!! (Fist in the air.)

3 –H Good-bye
Heigh-de-ho, heigh-de-hay,
Sure am glad you came today.
Before you go, what do you say?
Hug, handshake, or high-5 today?

*Cut out a hand (handshake), heart (hug), and "5" (high five). Children choose the one they want to give the teacher before they leave the classroom.

The African Village Song
I'm not sure where this song came from, but a teacher shared it with me years ago.  It's a meaningful song because it's about good times (when the sun comes down) and difficult times (when the rain comes down). But it takes the rain and the sun to make the flowers bloom.  We have all experienced difficult times this past year and look forward to sunny days ahead.

The flowers are all our children. And the children are why we keep going, and why we hold hands, and why we know that love will sustain us and bring us peace.

When the rain comes down, (Wiggle fingers down.)
Comes down on everyone. (Open arms.)
When the rain comes down,
Comes down on everyone.
Rich or poor, great or small, (Pretend to throw money away and the pull elbow.)
It really doesn’t matter at all. (Rub fingertips back and forth.
When the rain comes down on everyone.

Then the sun comes down…(Make arms in a circle.)

Then the flowers bloom… (Bring one hand up through the other like a flower growing.)
